Superhero matches seem to always have the villain coming out on top. Without fail, pick any gay superhero content and the hero loses 9 out of 10 times. I’m sure I could go on and pick apart this semiotic on gay culture but it brings me to the performer I most associate with gay supervillains, Jobe Zander.
I first noticed this performer on the Hard Hero website where the villain tortured the hapless Hero. The typical storyline went something like – Hero enters a room, a net/trap/poison/magical item is somehow sprung on him, Jobe appears and repeatedly beats said hero. Jobe was entertaining enough but frankly, the hero almost always earned most of my attention at the time. I will say that what always stuck with me was that villainous cackle and his over the top acting, there really was no one like him at the time.
Now, fast forward to years later when Jobe was summoned to Bgeast and boy did he crash the party. His match with Mitch Colby was particularly stunning and he managed to import that villainous presence to the wrestling ring with its grounding in reality and earthbound rules. Simply put the guy is a force of nature, and not a pleasant one at that.
Fast forward still and the guy is
making his third (maybe forth?) act as the mature, hot and hairy pro in
Can-Am’s recent work. Sadly Cam-Am has
put a pause to some of its content and this Jobe’s rebirth has also been
paused as well, but hopefully when things start up again the super villain, turned
super personality will be back.
