Good Taste: Part 2 or The "Line" in Wrestling

One of the topics that needs to be addressed in today's environment is the theme of wokeness and wrestling.  I'm sure we all understand that wrestling is a performance but one question still nags at me from time to time and that is: Where is the line and what is in good taste?

My earlier post on good taste focused on the aspects of wrestling that appealed to me and essentially the difference between a good performance and a legendary one.  So to further my self-discovery, this post will focus on not necessarily things that don't work in a match but what makes me uneasy watching some matches.

All this is my attempt to further understand why erotic wrestling and why only certain types of wrestling do it for me or rather in this case what ruins it for me.  So here we go, my list of deal breakers that kill a performance for me on a number of levels.

Deal Breakers for a Match (in no particular order)

Blood, even staged blood: Although I get that wrestling is a messy affair, blood ruins things for me.  Blood somehow makes things real when actually I am drawn to the performance aspect of wrestling and not violence.  Which brings me to my next point ...

Extended violence: This is both the most important topic and also the one that I have the hardest time articulating.  There is a clear line in my mind between violence and performance - the question is really where is the line?  Other than saying "I know it when I see it" I have a hard time placing this in words.

On the one hand, watching a hot body squirm and "play suffering" can be great however, there is a boundary when suffering becomes unattractive.  The same can be said of domination where a moderate amount does it for me but too much can ruin the match.  I would say in all things - exaggerated suffering/domination is the key here but then again, what does "exaggeration" truly mean?

Rough Talk: This is another item with a definite line not to cross.  Talking down to an opponent is hot to a point - it enhances the submission/domination however, there is a point where I can't take it anymore.  I recall a match where the dominator kept saying "faggot" this and that and it ruined an otherwise great match, in another bout, the aggressor kept saying "you're a piece of shit" over and over and I was done.

Mixed wrestling: Now, while I have seen some hot matches between a guy-girl, I have a hard time getting excited to see these.  Usually, it either seems like just an extra handsy sex performance or in other cases it borders on abuse.  So while I love to see a strong muscle guy dominated - seeing a girl in the same position and even a guy beat by a girl somehow offends my taste.

Chloroform or some other means to weaken: I want to like these types of matches but I simply can't for some reason.  Typically a big strong dude is weakened by a smaller opponent, all of which I should like but somehow can't.  Now I do enjoy a good superhero weakened by their kryptonite type of match, but these tend to be completely over the top and cartoonish which again goes back to the style of performance.  Simply chloroforming some guy and taking advantage of them is not hot to me.

--------------

So there you have it, my ongoing list articulating aspects about erotic wrestling I just can't get behind. Essentially in all these it has to feel like a "performance" with exaggerated scenes as opposed to feeling too real.  As with my posting about features for a successful match, I will definitely plan to revisit this list again in the future to see how my tastes have evolved and perhaps I can pinpoint these examples a bit better.
