One of the problems of having a non-mainstream fetish like erotic wrestling is the need to constantly reexamine yourself on why you're into what you're into. Part of the problem is that I'm old enough to question first, why I like hot guys and second, why I like guys wrestling/suffering together.
Blurred lines such as they are, often fall into the judgment of what's in good taste v bad taste; something that itself is shifting everyday. Readers of this blog have probably figured out by now that my purpose in posting is to understand why I like the things I do or in other words what's in good taste (for me anyway).
So in the hope of self-discovery, I broke down erotic wrestling performers across sites to see which matches worked and which did not. I also highlighted features from specific wrestling matches I love in "Everything Great about ________".
All this is my attempt to understand why erotic wrestling and why only certain types of wrestling do it for me. So here we go, my list of features that work for me on a number of levels.
Features for a Successful Match (in no particular order)
Good camera work: A terrific match needs to show both the scale of each fighter as well as the specific details of each man.
Scale: I love getting a full sense of all 6'2" of Christian Taylor towering over 5'8" Jeremy Burk.
Ring Matches: There's just something about a ring match that enhances the experience for me. We really get a good look at both fighters and also get a chance to see each and every muscle strain under pressure. Although I do enjoy other venues, all my favorite matches usually take advantage of the wrestling ring.
Off the top ropes: Jumping off the top ropes lets us see a wrestler slowly get to his feet before being wiped out.
Decent setup: At it's heart, a wrestling match is a story of sexual domination and nothing is hotter than a riveting plot to the story. The story need not be complex but simply add context into why they wrestle and why/how they want to dominate the other.
Christian and Morgan start wrestling however, Skip cannot sit by and watch his partner get beat so he intervenes only to have them both ultimately dominated by Morgan.
Partner selection: While you may get lucky just throwing two hot studs together and hoping for the best, the best matches have a tension-chemistry between the two fighters.
Good back and forth: I have a hard time articulating what exactly this part is other than saying that a wrestling match should completely embrace it's own story.
A competitive match should fully engulf me in the push-pull between them. Both wrestlers have skills and want to win this.
A squash match should highlight masculine energy of the stronger wrestler and the helplessness of the weaker wrestler. There is simply no way that Lorenzo could take on the behemoth Jeff Clark and it totally shows.
"Real" wrestling: Seeing a wrestler go into overdrive and dominate his opponent beyond the script is hot. I can't say for sure this is unplanned but I really did believe that Connor got annoyed and carried away, really pummeling Arn beyond what was planned.
Chemistry, lust fight: When one (or both) wrestler(s) want "it" bad, it brings an extra dimension to the match. Jonah is completely in lust over Rocco and Rocco takes full advantage of this. Jonah is ripped and likely could beat Rocco in this match but he cannot focus because he simply wants him so bad.
An "unfair" aspect: There is just something intensely erotic about a gimmick that gives one wrestler an overwhelming advantage over the other.
2-on-1: The match is taken to a whole new level when a wrestler is double teamed and helpless.
Weakness exploited: A hot turn of events is when the disadvantaged wrestler exploits the stronger fighter's weakness to beat him. The smaller Black Spider doesn't stand a chance physically so he gets the jump on the mighty 6 foot Dragonfly.
Worship or Domination: An opponent so dominating either physically or sexually, that gratitude must be paid.
Physically overwhelmed: Sometimes a guy's raw power is simply too much for his opponent and this shear dominance is intoxicating. Cameron Matthews exudes a raw dominating energy that it makes men weak.
Forced worship: It is so hot to see a wrestler groveling on his knees and forced to pay homage to the superior fighter.
Physical win but overcome by Sexually domination: My ultimate fantasy however, is seeing a scenario where the champ wins the match but is so overcome by arousal that he lets his guard down and is overtaken by his opponent. In Ring Releases 3, Leo soundly beats Kayden only to be overtaken sexually by him.
Bonus points for an Emission submission: One wrestler is beaten both physically and dominated sexually culminating in them submitting their entire body to their opponent. In X-Fights UK 5, although Ethan wins the match, Ty manages to seduce and force an emission out of Ethan submitting him to Ty's masculine energy.
So there you have it, my ongoing list articulating erotic wrestling's best features for a successful match. I'm curious to watch a new match and see how many of these things it checks off. I also plan to revisit this list again in the future to see how my tastes have evolved with the times.
